The famous swallows of Capistrano~ The story goes that one of the padres invited the birds to come to the mission for protection after he saw an angry shopkeeper knocking the little mud nests down from his store's roof. The birds fly to Argentina for the winter, then without fail, they return to the mission every year on the feast of St. Joseph (March 19).
We made adobe bricks and had a lively presentation by a docent with tons of energy and a dramatic flair.
The oldest building in California~
The ruins of the old Stone Church that was destroyed by earthquake in 1812.
The mission grounds are just spectacular. The flowers are just so beautiful. I could see why the Mission San Juan Capistrano is called the Jewel of the Missions!
