Weekly Wrap Up~ Last Two Weeks of February~

Same 3 R's and the addition of a new poet~ Eugene Field (so charming!) and hitting the math facts with Math It.

Literature~ (Not shown -finishing up Caddie Woodlawn) I bought The Doll People and it's sequel for the plane ride to Ohio, and a lucky little 10 year old received a Kindle Fire for her birthday! On the Kindle are several books. The ones that were read on the trip were: Henry Huggins, Childhood of Famous Americans-Dr. Seuss (It was his birthday, after all), The Mouse and the Motorcycle, and The Adventures of Prickly Porky (Many of the Thornton Burgess books are free for Kindle!)

Five in a Row~ The Bee Tree~

Social Studies: Relationships/Traditions, Michigan, Immigrants, Culture, Hospitality

Language Arts: Catching Clues (Foreshadowing), Onomatopoeia review, Vocabulary words, Analogy

Art Appreciation: Details, textures, multi-media

Math: Hexagons

Science: Bees and bee products~ I displayed the beeswax and honey products we had- local honey I buy at the farmer's market, beeswax candles we rolled and one that is dipped, beeswax "spoon oil" that was a gift (sand your wooden spoons, then rub this beeswax and mineral oil mixture on them to spruce them up!), and some honeycomb that L-16 found in the church parking lot. We also watched the Magic School Bus Bee episode on You Tube. It's very different from the book.

Because of everything going on with making funeral and travel arrangements, we split our schooling week up and did three days the week of Valentine's Day and two days the following week. I love the flexibility homeschooling affords.

What a great week. I love the Bee Tree. The windmill power looks so cool too. Do you like the Doll People?
Blessings,
Dawn

Dawn, yes The Doll People books are great! My 12 ds listened to them on audio book a few years ago and loved them. M-10 read both books on our 4 hour flight. She loved them! I believe there is now a third book, too.
