Lazy Summer Days

As we are recovering from the crazy last few weeks and staying close to home as Daddy recovers from back surgery (he's doing great, but can't lift, bend or twist) we needed some ideas to occupy time that didn't involve screens or wiimotes....
I got out my Team Challenge book and the kids had a couple of hours of fun.

From the Tiny Tasks chapter their challenges were:

Create a bridge that will span 18 inches:

P-9 used 4 drinking straws
L-13 and C-11 both used 3 spaghetti noodles and 1 index card each
M-7 used a cardboard tube, straw and some toothpicks

Build a structure as tall as possible:
L-13 used 24 ice cubes
M-7 used 1 cardboard tube and 10 toothpicks
C-11 used 16 drinking straws
P-9 used 5 sheets of paper and tape

Create a continuous, unbroken line as long as possible:
L-13 used 3 cotton balls
C-11 used 1 sheet of paper
M-7 used 3 straws and 2 cotton balls

L-13 used just 1 cotton ball and made cotton thread out of it that reached from one end of the house to the other! Pretty cool! Even though these were team challenges, they worked individually. Either way, these little challenges were a fun way to spend the morning. For more fun thinking activities go to http://kidswhothink.blogspot.com/
