The Rain Rain Rain Came Down Down Down....

It's raining cats and dogs here in sunny California. It's rain in other parts of the country, here it's a "storm"; it's never just "rain". We're weather wimps.
The boys are at the window watching the front yard flood (while eating rice pudding, apparently), we have a yummy simmering pot pourri on the stove making the house smell warm and cozy and I think we'll need to read Thundercake sometime today since thunder and lightening are predicted, and I think it's time to get out some Pooh.
We read a poem yesterday that went perfectly with the weather. C-12 remembered a line from it as we were driving home from violin in a downpour.
"...... and smoke from the chimneys struggles through weighted air. The sky is sodden with water...." Oregon Winter by Jeanne McGahey
Weighted air and a sodden sky is right!

Recipe for Simmering Citrus Pot Pourri
1 lemon, sliced
1 orange, sliced
(I just used 2 tangerines and I wasn't willing to run across the soaked backyard to grab a lemon off of the tree!)
1 cinnamon stick
6-8 whole cloves
2 bay leaves
small slice of ginger root
Fill small saucepan with water, put in ingredients. Bring to a simmer on very low heat. Replenish water as it evaporates. Lasts for 2-3 days.
I like doing pot pourri this way because it's all natural and doesn't give anyone a headache!

Glad y'all were safe in the wild CA weather this week, Shonda. :)I see you made the most of the stormy weather with Thundercakes, pot pourri, and lots of warm and coziness. :) FUN!
