Call them what you will, but my recipe calls them~
Dutch Apple Fritters
*********************
6 large cooking apples (I used Honey Crisp)
1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 large beaten egg
1/2 cup milk
Oil for frying
Powdered sugar for sprinkling
1.) Peel the apples and remove cores. Cut into 1/3 in. thick slices.
2.) Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt.
3.) Combine the beaten egg and milk, then add to the flour mixture. Mix well to remove lumps.
4.) Pour the oil into a deep frying pan to a depth of 1/2 inch. Heat oil. Dip the apple slices into the batter and deep fry until golden brown on one side, then flip. Drain on paper towels.
5.) Cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Note: The batter is very thick and I found I had to spread it on the apple slices. I left a little corner of the apple to hold on to while I did this. It looks kind of cute. :)
