Handwork is an important part of the Waldorf curriculum and all of my kids have enjoyed working with either wool or 100% cotton yarn crafts. It's such a lovely centering activity that works at the midline of the body and it goes without saying how wonderful it is for fine motor skills.
This is the cute little verse I taught M while explaining how to wrangle with that yarn:
Use two smart fingers and enter the cave
Grab that long snake- you must be brave
Pull the snake out to the light of day
Close the cave up so he can't get away!
She hasn't decided if it will remain a chain or if it will be wound into a coaster or glued as trim around a picture frame or... It doesn't matter. To me it was the process rather than product that was important.
