We love Madeline! The whole family was immersed in French culture for the week.*Social Studies~ We started our journey by painting a flag of France. We started our Geography envelope system with Europe, France and Paris. We looked up Paris on the internet and printed pictures of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River. L made a miniature Eiffel Tower out of Lego by using very detailed instructions. Daddy helped, but then L made another one all by herself!
We also had a lot of discussion of "Old times" vs. present times and found lots of things in the book that would be different now.
*Applied Math~ We counted all those little girls in two straight lines and found the mistake!
*Art~ We learned about Claude Monet and looked at many pictures of his art work. We experimented with watercolors and discussed how Monet filled the whole canvas. We also compared Monet with Ludwig Bemelmans and decided their styles were similar.
*Science~ We discussed germs and had a lot of fun with our germ experiment. L rubbed Vaseline all over her hands and I sprinkled them with pepper (the germs). She then attempted to wash them off. Those germs were stubborn and it took a lot of scrubbing with soap! We also saw how easily they spread to the sink handle and paper towel holder. Germs really spread fast!
*For a treat we borrowed a Madeline CD from the library.
