Cheep, Cheep!

Mother's Day came and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I just wasn't expecting how much it would effect me. Since my Mom had Alzheimer's, I felt like I had somewhat lost her a couple of years ago and have been grieving that loss for awhile. But while it was a hard day for me, my sweet husband and kids worked hard to give me a gift they knew I would love! And when I say worked hard, I mean it! They put a lot of hard labor and sweat into this project.

I have been wanting chickens for a long time! Even before we moved to the country I was dreaming of chickens and farm fresh eggs.

The coop came in a kit that the boys and Dad put together.  Everyone primed and painted and shingled the roof.

Voila!  A beautiful portable chicken coop!

Easy egg access~

When the chicks are big enough, we will put their little ramp up and they can free range.

So pretty. Doesn't it look great?  The sound of little chicks cheeping makes me happy.

And here they are! We bought eight to start out.  I think they will give us plenty of eggs. That is, if they are all hens. (Hopefully!)

We bought two chicks each of four different varieties. We wanted to have a variety of egg colors. haha! We'll have green eggs, dark brown, and light brown.

I guess we're really farmers now!
