Literature~ Oh Pooh, how I love you. We have read lots of Pooh over the years. In Which Tigger Has a Bath was P-10's very favorite story when he was around 4 and I read it over and over. We have many Pooh-isms in our family and say things such "It's a blustery day!" when it's windy. This was the first time I read the entire book and couldn't quite get the last paragraph out in the end for the tears...M-8 had to read it for me. Just So Stories was a fun read, but a little odd at times.
Five in a Row~ Well, our Five in a Row studies have not been up to snuff, but we did row the perennial springtime book Miss Rumphius.
Math~ I have several Greg Tang books and they are fun to look at. I like this one especially because of the art appreciation tie in. What's Your Angle, Pythagoras was also fun since we learned a little about him from Mathematicians Are People, Too. C-12 is especially loving The Number Devil. I'm not crazy about the devil character, but C-12 has been enjoying reading it with me so much, and then doing the math the stories are talking about, it's worth it.
Classic Chapter Books~ We read The Trumpet of the Swan and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe for our Girls Book Club and The Phantom Tollbooth because we love it. Actually, M-8 read TLTWATW all by herself on her own. Sigh. The Narnia books are my absolute favorite to read aloud and it made me a little sad not to read it to her, but I was so happy to have my girl choose that as her first Real chapter book that she took outside and read under the tree. My very first *real* book was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and I have always remembered that. The first book I read that made me cry on my bed was Charlotte's Web in 3rd grade. I like having book memories. It was a busy spring, especially with L-14 and her Shakespeare play rehearsals and all the end of the school year activities, meetings and fun. We finished up our History Club, had a violin recital, finished up piano lessons before a long summer break, had end of troop Girl Scout adventures, end of year field trips, homeschooling seminars and workshops and started TaeKwonDo as a family. Everyone read mountains of books on their own and had fun with friends. A good spring and a good year.
