The members of the "Purple Girl Club" waited patiently for full recovery!
One evening as M-8 was on our monkey bars, she dropped down and landed funny. I immediately knew something was wrong because she was pretty distressed. She wasn't hysterical, I could just tell she was in a lot of pain. A call to the doctor (Sat. eve. answering service) told us to wait until tomorrow and see how it is. Sunday Dad took her in for an x-ray where we found out she broke 2 bones, the radius and ulna. They sent her home with a sling because they don't cast until the swelling goes down. The pediatrician recommended a doctor to cast and she went in a couple of days later. Little did we know that the doctor's office did not have anesthesia so she had her bones set with no pain relief. It was very traumatic and the Sonic chocolate shake afterwards did little to make her feel better.
Being the trooper that she is, she handled her 4 week full arm cast very well despite missing beach days and sitting out much of park days. Finally, the day of cast removal came and her arm was so stiff she wouldn't move it for 2 days. Gradually, everything came back to normal, although it is still a bit sore at times. This was our first cast in a family of 4 kids, so I think we're doing well!
