Last week, our bishop announced that we were going to have an emergency preparedness drill and it was going to be about water. We were very lucky that he gave us that hint! We usually aren't that fortunate. This is the third drill our bishop has challenged our ward with in the past few years. We missed the first one, living off of food storage and not going to the grocery store or using any freezer food for one week, because we were on vacation. The second one was a wild fire drill where we had to leave church right after sacrament meeting, (the day of the primary children's program!) go home and gather what we could in five minutes for an evacuation. We all met back at the church to debrief.

So this is the announcement we received today:
"There has been a significant failure in the water main bringing water to our local areas. Beginning immediately today, tap water is either unavailable or contaminated and should not be used. You must rely solely upon your water storage for all needed water including drinking, cleaning, dishes, laundry, and hygiene until repairs are finished on the water main. There is no tap water available, including water to flush toilets. All stores in the area are out of stock on bottled water of any kind. You may shop for any items except water. Water may be borrowed or bartered for......We strongly recommend that you boil water before using it to make sure it is purified. Bathing must be done with three or less gallons of water. All affected citizens have at least one full load of laundry that must be washed by hand using purified, stored water during this drill."
On Wednesday, we are to check the ward website to see if the water service has been "restored".
Pumping water from the barrels into smaller containers for flushing purposes.
The past couple of days I did every bit of laundry in the house. We replenished the water bottle supply and bought some water containers with spouts to have next to the sinks.
I thought I was ready for this drill, but now I have vomiting children. Sigh. This should be fun.

Wow. That is a pretty intense drill! Let me know how it goes. We are always looking for new ideas.
Did your kids get sick from the water or is it a coincidence they got sick right at the same time as this drill?
I am never going to mention this drill to anyone who lives near me, I don't want my Bishop getting any ideas! Good Luck, you'll do great!
C got sick Sat., so before the drill. Poor M threw up in her primary class. So sad!
