Emergence

We bought Painted Lady caterpillars from Insect Lore and had fun watching them create their chrysalides. All five emerged and we've enjoyed observing and feeding them this week. Today was the day we let them spread their wings and fly off into the clear blue sky.

Our poor little one with wings that didn't develop. He's a trooper, though, and gets around with hops and flutters.

Do you see him? This excited guy burst out of the enclosure and is taking flight just above the window.

This guy hung out for a while and let me hold him. He was the last to emerge, so he wasn't as anxious to leave as the others.

The Butterfly Opera

C-10 and M-6 were so excited that they broke out in song. Totally impromtu and quite hysterical, I thought. Sounds like M-6 has been taking lessons from Ethel Merman.

I love the pictures and the opera!! We had a great time hatching butterflies several years ago, but I don't think we got any pictures. We really ought to do it again since I don't think my younger ones remember it very well.

How fun! We have a passion flower vine that attracts butterflies to lay their eggs every year. We've been watching the catapillars grow, change, and emerge as butterflies too. The song was fabulous!
