Above the rocky shore of Point
Loma sits the old lighthouse. It's been restored to it's 1880's simple splendor (the kid's are learning
oxymorons so I've been trying to think of some) to show how the light keeper and his family lived. This is also the site for the Juan
Rodrigquez Cabrillo monument.
Cabrillo led the first European expedition to the west coast and he arrived in what is now San Diego Bay in 1542. This national park has stunning views. We went on a short hike along the shore line looking for the famed
tidepools, but due to our outrageously late start (had to call AAA in the condo parking garage for a dead battery...) we missed low tide. It was still beautiful, although the steep ledges and drop offs were a little scary. An added bonus to our time was watching a fisherlady catch and release a small leopard shark. Pretty cool!
