Morning Devotional~ We start out by each reading three verses from The Book of Mormon. I love this Book of Mormon For Latter Day Saint Families because it has such great discussion questions after each chapter. It also has cool pictures, maps etc. for us visual people. I then read a chapter from Gordon B.
Hinkley's Way To Be. Everyone then writes a "paper" on whatever the Be was for the day and how they can "be more of that Be" or what it means to them. (Be Grateful, Be Smart, Be Involved, Be Clean, Be True, so far.) I then read a chapter from I Walked To Zion. My main purpose in reading this was to inspire journal writing, (and P-11 was inspired!
Yay!) but it is also great preparation for my two older kids going on a Pioneer Trek this summer.

Classic Literature~ We read The Princess and the Goblin and The Courage of Sarah Noble for Girls book club. Everyone loved
TPatG. I tried reading The Hundred Dresses to M-8 and she had the exact same response as L-15 did at that age. I remember LOVING that book when I was young. My girls really, really don't like it. At. All.

Social Studies~ We are still focusing on our country, national symbols and
patriotism. The big fall holiday was of course, Thanksgiving and we read a lot of books centered on that.

Geography~ Continuing our Geography Envelope System and adding countries and continents from the settings of the books we read. We are also making our way through
biomes (maybe that should go under science??)

Five in a Row~ We actually did several activities from a few different Five in a Row books (Lentil, Ping) but just read and studied Papa Piccolo for five days (in a row...)

History~ Started our third year of History Club with our friends. We're using Story of the World Vol. 4 (Modern Times) and Joy
Haikim's A History of US. We meet every other week and rotate two stations (American history and World history).

Math~ We did a lot of math free exploring with
manipulatives and games. I also bought Life of Fred and P-11 and C-13 both enjoyed reading it a lot! It's very funny and is just the right style for the boys. C-13 is working through the problems, but P-11 just reads it. That's o.k.

Science and Art Club~We meet every other week (opposite from History Club and pretty much the same group of kids) for a great time of exploring with art projects and science experiments. We are using the Physics book and Discovering Great Artists as our spines. (We have been using the other art book with our friends on Thursdays.) During the Art portion, the kids learn a little bio and history of a particular composer and we listen to their music.

We kept very busy with the Fall Musical (Anne of Green Gables) and returning to our Commonwealth School in September. This is C-13's first year and he is taking Key of Liberty which is a study of our nation's founding and an intense study of the Constitution. This has been a big step for him and he has been doing lots of reading, book discussions, simulations and opinion papers! L-15 is now in the Apprentice Scholar stage of her education and is taking Classical Acting and Pyramid Project which is a math and science class focusing on the traits of a scientist and finding truth. She is also working with her amazing math mentor (one of my best friends). Everyone is continuing with their instruments (piano and violin) and scouts, Activity day girls and Young women fill our evenings. Fall always starts out with a bang and we hit the ground running. This year was no exception!
