Pioneer Field Trip at Smith Ranch

We went on a fantastic field trip with our homeschool friends! http://pioneerw.ipower.com/index.html If you notice on their home page, L-12 is in one of the pictures!
This ranch has a gold mine from 1870 that we were able to go into~ the kids in rail cars, the moms on foot (thank goodness!)

There were lots of hands on activities for the kids to really experience what it was like in pioneer times. Our family has been to quite a few living history type sites in our day and we were really impressed with these activities! They were very different from the usual! The owners and operators of this ranch were so accommodating and hospitable. Very neat family. They really went all out and spent a lot of time with us.
Sawing logs took muscle...
Raising the flag at Fort Daniel Boone....
Plowing the field was really fun and really hard! I feel sorry for the "horses"!

Grinding wheat....
It was a beautiful day and we had tons of fun. I was actually quite sick, but didn't want to miss out on this trip. It's so fun to get together for these experiences.
