Candy Cane Lane! This is a big tradition for us. The kids spend hours working on their gingerbread houses. This year we used kits from Costco. A great deal!
Kid Decorated Christmas tree! Not only do they do all the decorating, they pick out the tree, string the lights and hang the garland. I have completely gotten over my perfectionism and everyone is a lot happier! The tree really isn't that crooked, it's just the picture. :)
Our Five in a Row unit study has taken us to Ungava Bay in Northern Canada. The kids loved reading about Inuits, learning how the people go under the ice to collect mussels and a side study of the continents and biomes.
Our annual Advent reading with Jotham's Journey. An exciting story about a boy separated from his family at the time of Christ's birth. Every chapter is a cliff hanger that the kids love!We also have our seasonal book basket bursting with our Christmas, Winter and Hanukkah books. Our favorites are Santa's Book of Names by David McPhail, The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado and Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins by Eric Kimmel. This year we read for the frist time The Best Christmas Pagent Ever by Barbara Robinson. The kids were quite horrified at the terrible Herdman children and their scandalous ways. Most of my fun was watching my kids expressions at the character's misdeeds. They just couldn't believe I was reading them a book with such delinquents as the main characters!
It's been a busy holiday season. Lots of parties and events. We have had to say no to a few things and that's always a shame. There is just so little time to fit so much in!
