Turns out we have a little treasure. The groomer was looking through the dog book trying to figure out what in the world to do with her and came across a picture of an Affenpinscher and thought she looked pretty close. Our little girl doesn't have her ears or tail docked, so she looks a little different from the "breed standard", but she does indeed have the trademark Affen face and most certainly the Affen personality.
Affen means monkey in German. They are described as looking like an organ grinder's monkey when they dance on their hind legs (which she does all the time) as well as having an underbite that looks primate-ish.
Their personality is described as "plucky" and "busy". I have also read about them being a "big dog in a little body" and a "Rottweiler wannabe". Above all she is extremely intelligent and (uh oh) stubborn with selective hearing.
To be honest, sometimes she's a pain. But mostly she is very entertaining and a great snuggler. Being the dog people that we are, we think that she's worth it. Tikka's still not sure.

Great story! Mystery solved!
Hey friend! I tagged you on my blog for a meme.
I love your little dog! What a cutie. My dog is black and looks like a monkey too, in fact I call her chunky monkey.
Hey! In reference to your question on my blog: I don't "overly" plan our school days, because life happens and I need to stay flexible, but what I do for book studies is check the number of chapters and divide them up by approximately how many weeks we want a study to last. I have found that anything over 5 is too long (for us) and sometimes 5 is pushing it.
For example if there are 16 chapters, that's easy, a chapter a day except on Fridays for 4 weeks (Friday would be a weekly wrap up).
