*Social Studies~ During this Thanksgiving month our obvious focus was on all things Pilgrim and thankfulness! We had a Thanksgiving unit all on it's own with pilgrim stories, native american crafts and lots of discussion and projects on thankfulness. We made a Thankful Tree from a branch we picked up at the park. We stenciled leaves and hung them from the branch. We all wrote some things we were thankful for on our leaves. The best part was asking everyone that graced our doorstep what they were thankful for and adding it to the tree. Our favorite was the Terminex guy. It was pretty special to have the bug guy tell you with teary eyes that he was thankful for his son.
We also discussed the New England states and why they are called that and that is where Aunt Julie is from! We had a lunch of clam chowder and cranberry juice!
*Science~ Learned about gases by doing an experiment with yeast and water in a water bottle. The gases the yeast let off blew up the balloon. We also learned about cranberries. We found that they are hollow inside and float and bounce! We had bowls of sparkling, red, floating cranberries and bouncing berries all over the kitchen.
*Cooking~ We made Cranberry Bread from the recipe in the book. L measured all of the ingredients and poured and stirred. The result was very yummy!
