My garden didn't turn out very well. Despite adding buckets of llama beans and compost to organic soil, hand watering, meticulously pulling every weed, cooing at the little sprouts, and thinking happy thoughts, I also battled disease, bugs, and gophers, and they won. Thankfully, we have lots of other things growing. Last Saturday morning I went "shopping" in the backyard and picked loads of mandarin oranges, apples (the last on the tree-they were really early this year), the first avocados (not very many even though the tree has grown a lot), and very small Asian pears (more in quantity every year, but still the same small size). I cleaned off the only tomato that produced-the beautiful Indigo Rose variety-very hearty and prolific, and filled a basket with colorful eggs, as well.
We now have six turkeys that are also growing. We hope to keep a mated pair for eggs and more baby turkeys and come Thanksgiving...well, let's just say, Gulp.
