Independence Day means going to Utah for our family. This year we had all of the brothers together and one big cousin fest. Even though we stay at a hotel (pool time!) we like to spend as much time at Great-Grandpa's as we can. The kids always have fun on the willow tree swing, run around the barn and end up playing in Aunt Becky and Uncle Cal's basement (since they live a few hundred yards away). Grandpa passed away at 100 years old just the month before our reunion, so this time was bittersweet. We spent lots of time hanging out in his living room reminiscing and making each other laugh.
Cousins staking their claim; Kind of funny since they spend most of the time running after salt water taffy and other candy that gets thrown from the floats!
C-14 looking like a teenager ~
I wonder if she said yes?
Only in Utah~
We love to go to the town picnic and races after the parade. We were sad to hear this is the last year at this park. They are constructing something on this space. Sad.
P-12
All the participants get a quarter to buy an ice cream sandwich. I don't know how many P-12 consumed...
Competitive genes~ The big boys (and one studly girl) were fired up to race each other in the 40+ division. Who do you think won?
Fireworks from the hotel window~
The next morning it was raining and cold. It was blazing hot on the 4th so it was very strange. The uncles took some of the kids shooting in the rain.
It was sad to not have a smiling, waving grandpa on the porch as we pulled out. Our last Independence Day parade in this small Utah town. We will have many happy memories!

What a great post. It was a great time at Grandpa Rogers. Need to figure out when we are all going to get together again.
