Nine days is how long this cute girl spent at Children's Hospital. She started out at home with what we thought was a tummy virus. Turns out she was having internal bleeding and was getting very anemic very fast. She was direct admitted to the hospital and had the nicest nurses attend to her. Very gentle and calming.
The next day they started what the doctors fondly refer to as a "clean out". This tiny wisp of a girl had to drink 64 oz. of Miralax in watered down juice in a short amount of time. What a trooper she was! She really gave it her all, but physically could not do it. She had to have an NG tube to administer the fluids. Thinking it would be a more tolerable experience for her, the doctors gave her something to "relax" her for the procedure. Unfortunately, she had an adverse reaction which made everything about 100 times worse. After the tube, they needed to take her up to x-ray to make sure it was inserted properly. She sat in my lap in a wheel chair and away we rolled. I'll skip the details, but I'll just say being left in an empty hall with a hallucinating, vomiting child was one of the worst experiences of my life.
The next day she had a scope done while under general anesthesia and she did great. She also had a blood transfusion. At that point we started getting some answers which leaned toward Inflammatory Bowel Disease (not sure which one yet).
Four days with no food or drink ( I'm not counting the yucky Miralax) is a long time. After that she was introduced to Jell-o and broth with great celebration! After several days on Stage 1 clear liquids, she was able to test mashed potatoes and noodles, but not on the same day.
Her band aid collection/tally of how many times she was stuck. Grand total with the pic line was 10. She never cried. Even when her first IV went bad and the nurses stuck her four times trying to get her vein to hold still. They finally gave up. Later that day she got the pic line.
All the nurses commented on how loved she was. Lots of visitors and cards were sent to brighten up her room.
The days started to meld together. We read a lot, watched t.v and Netflix on my laptop and she was able to go to the playroom several times. We played games and did some crafts. We had a couple of therapy dogs come visit which was a highlight!
Finally, after lots of "teasing" from doctors that contradict each other, we were able to go home a little earlier than we expected! Yay! She is doing well on Stage 2 and we will be testing Stage 3 soon. Stage 3 means Rice Krispy treats!

Wow! I am so glad she is ok. I hope that all goes well inher recovery. We are familiar with hospitals and have spent a fair amount of time in them. I am sorry you were left in the hallway.
Blessings,
Dawn
